Brecon Cathedral Shop - Welsh Gifts & Cathedral memorabilia - Brecon Beacons, Wales, UK

The  Cathedral Church of St John the Evangelist in Brecon, situated in the mid-Wales market town of Brecon, Powys, in the Brecon Beacons,  is the mother church of the Diocese of Swansea and Brecon.  The Cathedral Shop, Heritage Centre and adjoining Pilgrims Tea Rooms and Licensed Restaurant are part of the 17th-century Tithe Barn situated just opposite the Cathedral within the historic walled Close, which comprises the finest set of medieval ecclesiastical buildings in Wales.

The Shop is open all year round and stocks a diverse range of Christian and general gifts, books, postcards, cards and Church requisites.  We also sell mounted prints and framed artwork by local artists which feature the beauty of the Brecon Beacons and local scenes such as the Brecon canal. Many of our gifts are exclusive to Brecon Cathedral, including postcards, prints and gifts featuring the highly regarded Victorian painting, "Peace", by William Strutt, that hangs in the Cathedral. Our friendly and knowledgeable staff and dedicated volunteers look forward to serving you: contact 01874 625222 or for opening hours.

Visiting the Cathedral Shop could not be easier:  free parking is available at the Cathedral car-park or take a short stroll up Priory Hill from the centre of Brecon. Beyond the churchyard is a lovely riverside walk, the Priory Groves, a favourite haunt of Brecon's famous metaphysical poet, Henry Vaughan.  The churchyard itself is a rich source of local history; of particular interest is the handsome box-tomb over the grave of one of the first Victoria Cross recipients, Major Charles Lumley.

Pilgrims is open all year round and serves award-winning food, with an emphasis on local ingredients and has a unique ambience, set as it is in the tranquil Cathedral Close. Popular Indoor and outdoor seating is available with tables looking across to the Cathedral; groups can also be accomodated in the Heritage Centre.  Open for breakfast, morning coffee, hot and cold lunches and afternoon tea, with seasonal and special menus throughout the year:  for bookings and to check opening times telephone 01874 610610 or email

The Heritage Centre is also adjacent to the Shop: this has an exhibition on the history of the former Priory Church and incoroporates the Cathedral's orginal medieval bell-frame and other fine timbers.  The Centre is available to hire for meetings, exhibitions, workshops, parties, funeral teas, wedding receptions or other functions (catering is by arrangement with Pilgrims Tearooms). A booking form is available - send your request via the contact section, or email or telephone 01874 623857.
